Resource Efficiency in the Building Sector: Policy Landscape

GIZ-Adelphi Workshop on Promoting Resource Efficiency in the Indian Building and Construction Sector, 8 September, 2017 India’s construction market is projected to grow at a rate of seven to eight percent annually through the next ten years leading to immense pressure on resources required for this growth. A lot of the current initiatives on efficiency in the building sector have largely focused on operational energy efficiency. Resource efficiency allows us to expand this conversation and encompass interconnected criteria including building materials, both operational and embodied energy, as well as water, land and biodiversity, to provide a coherent narrative for minimising both energy and environmental impacts. We presented at the stakeholder workshop organised by GIZ and Adelphi and discussed the existing policy landscape for resource efficiency in the building sector.
